2017 Diabetes Walk raises awareness

November 27, 2017 by Debra King

2017 Diabetes Walk raises awareness

ABOUT 100 walkers came together in Port Macquarie on November 25 to raise awareness and spread the word about prevention of diabetes.

About 280 people across Australia are diagnosed with diabetes every day.

Among those are children and young adults with type 1 and 2 diabetes the most prevalent.

JDRF One Walk organiser Sonia Downie said raising awareness and fundraising for preventative measures are an important part of ensuring the impacts of diabetes are managed.

Five-year-old Matthew Yarnold of Taree developed type 1 diabetes at the age of three.

Since then, he is subject to 4-6 insulin shots every day and up to 10 finger prick checks.

Mum Donna rallied the troops from Taree with more than 20 members of Matthew’s family and friends walking to support the cause.

Anyone wanting more information on diabetes management can contact JK Healthcare on 6583 7717.
